Terms of Use

The short version: when the listing is live, you will buy Excise PDF from Apple, not from us. One purchase will cover Mac, iPhone and iPad. Refunds will go through Apple. The app runs entirely on your device and we hold nothing of yours. It reports what it inspected in one file — it does not certify anything, and it is not legal advice.
Who you are buying from
Excise PDF is planned for exclusive distribution through Apple's App Store; the listing is not public yet. Apple will be the seller on the transaction: it takes the payment, handles tax, and issues the receipt. Kalman Software LLC (Colorado, USA) is the developer.
Because the app is bought on the App Store, it is licensed to you — not sold — under Apple's Standard End User Licence Agreement for Licensed Applications, which applies to every app whose developer does not supply its own. We do not supply our own. That agreement governs the licence itself; this page describes the rest, and where the two ever disagree about the licence, Apple's agreement wins.
What one purchase covers
Excise PDF is a Universal Purchase: the Mac app and the iPhone/iPad app are the same product, so buying it once entitles you to it on all three, on devices signed in to your Apple Account under Apple's usual terms (including Family Sharing, where you have enabled it).
Updates are delivered by the App Store. Nothing in the app expires, phones home, or stops working when a newer version ships — there is no licence check, because there is no network access to check over.
Price and refunds
The price is the one shown on the App Store listing for your storefront, and Apple sets what that is locally and when it changes. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue, reverse, or see a purchase.
What the app claims — and what it does not
Excise PDF edits a PDF's page content so that matched characters are removed rather than covered, removes the hidden-data categories you asked it to remove, writes a separate copy, and then reopens that copy and reports what it found in it. Everything it reports is a statement about one file, under the settings of that run.
- It does not certify a document, and it does not describe a level of accuracy that the receipt did not measure. A pass means the checks it ran found nothing they were looking for — and the receipt names those checks, along with anything it could not check.
- It makes no claim that a redacted file cannot be recovered by any means. The claim is the specific one above.
- It is not legal or compliance advice, and it does not know whether an exemption code you print is the correct one. Deciding what must be redacted in a given document, and whether a claimed exemption is right, remains yours.
- Review the output. The receipt exists so that you can check the work rather than take our word for it; reading it is part of using the app.
Your documents
The app runs entirely on your device, has no network access, and never writes over your original file. We receive nothing about the documents you open. See the privacy policy for the detail.
Acceptable use
Use the app lawfully. Do not use it to destroy or conceal evidence you are required to preserve, or to alter a document in a way you are not entitled to alter. You are responsible for what you publish or file.
Warranty disclaimer
The app is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it is free of defects or that any particular document will be processed successfully — a document it cannot process is one it refuses to process, and it says so.
Nothing here limits any consumer rights you have that cannot be waived under the law of the place you live.
Limits of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kalman Software LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or disclosure of information, arising out of your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it.
If these terms change
We may update this page — for example, when a feature changes what the app claims. Changes take effect when posted, and the effective date at the top moves with them.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of Larimer County, Colorado are the venue for any dispute — again, without limiting consumer rights that cannot be waived where you live.
